This 12-class teacher training is designed to give you the Buddhist wisdom and practice teaching - and knowledge of how to teach - to guide meditations for friends and family and neighbors and co-workers. And even if you simply want to increase your knowledge of Buddhist wisdom and go further on your own meditation path … this program is for you. 

Community Meditation Teacher Training is designed to be Socratic, interactive and social. Special care has been taken to build community throughout the program and to help students form friendships and peer support throughout the course. 

All students who pass this training will receive a certificate for Teaching Community Meditation.

Schedule

Training takes place over a 3-month period.

Students attend 12 daytime classes, Sundays at noon ET.

Curriculum

If you meditate now and want to go deeper on your practice..

If you want to learn more about the wisdom behind meditation and to understand how and why it affects the brain and body so profoundly. Or if you seek the knowledge and skills to become a certified meditation teacher for your community, this program is for you.

Students will:

  • Learn in an engaging and interactive Socratic format (discussion based, not lecture based)

  • Understand meditation from the historic, neuroscientific, psychological, and experiential perspectives

  • Find greater presence, balance, clarity, and expansiveness within yourself through committed personal meditation practice

  • Practice leading meditations and receive constructive feedback

  • Build a supportive learning community (sangha) with your fellow classmates and discuss how to facilitate and encourage community as a teacher

  • Develop the confidence, vocabulary, and presence to successfully lead others in meditations and help them build their own meditation practice

  • Dharma, Generosity + Values :: Mindfulness of Breath

  • Four Noble Truths :: Body Scan / Body Sensations

  • Eight-fold Path + Focus on “Right Action” :: Mindfulness of Sound

  • 5 Hindrances + The 3 Jewels :: Thoughts and Emotions

  • Four Foundations of Mindfulness + Insight (Vipassana) :: Mindfulness of Thoughts + Emotions + Mindfulness of Dhammas

  • History of Buddhism + Cycle of Samsara :: Awake, Alert and Relaxed

  • Three Universal Truths + Karma and the Five Aggregates

  • Teaching + How to Answer Difficult Questions

  • Compassion Meditation

  • RAIN + Giving & Taking

  • Finding and Speaking the Truth + Equanimity

  • Other Types of Meditation :: Mantra, Zen, Energizing

Teachers

Dina Kaplan is founder of The Path and a certified meditation teacher who leads meditations and retreats around the world at individuals, corporations, conferences, and more, including in Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Iceland, across the U.S. and elsewhere in Asia and Europe. She has studied and practiced dozens of meditation techniques, including Vipassana, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Vedic (or “mantra”) meditation, loving-kindness or (“metta”) meditation and more. Dina’s mission is to give people the tools and inspiration to begin and continue a daily practice and to create community around meditation.

This class is also taught by Leon Ford (on-demand) and by Manching Tom (live).

Through retreats, weekly meditations, events with top teachers from around the world and certificate teacher training programs in Mindfulness, Compassion and Mindful Leadership, since 2014 we have taught thousands of people to meditate around the world. We also host Mela, a curated retreat for global leaders. We believe meditation can be accessible and taught in beautiful, fun environments.

Missed Class Policy

Students may miss 2 classes and still earn their teaching certification. Beyond that number, students are welcome to participate in the class but will not earn a certificate. Classes are not taped. Missed material may be made up by scheduling a 1:1 session with the teacher or assistant teacher (at the teachers' hourly rate).
