Sharing Mindfulness in Portuguese by Meditation Teacher Training Graduate Karina Borges
I’ve finally started my Mindfulness Sem Firulas project, something like No-Frills Mindfulness (or Mindfulness Sin Florituras in Spanish).
Along my journey, I realized that practicing mindfulness often boxed me into a “hippie” or “always-zen” stereotype. With this project, I’m trying to push back on that myth and share something simpler and more honest: mindfulness is for everyone — real people, with real lives and real problems. Age, gender, social background, or religion don’t matter.
My approach is intentionally simple. I use plain, no-guru language and a scientific perspective that can apply to anyone, drawing from my studies and personal practice, including what I’ve learned through The Path.
In my daily practice, Buddhism is still a beautiful background to the way I try to exist in the world. But with Mindfulness Sem Firulas, my focus is on the universality of the practice: how mindfulness can support us in everyday life, regardless of tradition.
For now, I’m sharing content mainly in Portuguese, with some Spanish, and I’ll soon be adding dedicated content in Spanish as well. My intention is to offer online classes and courses in Portuguese, and in-person classes and workshops in Spanish, hopefully starting in January.
Taking this first step has been both meaningful and joyful. I’m deeply grateful for the encouragement and generosity I received along the way, it made taking that first step feel possible.
